Servant Events

2009_Many_of_the_participants_in_spring_break_Servant_Events_0.JPGYou know the best thing about spring semester isn’t the homework or the tests, and it’s certainly not buying all those textbooks. Then what is it? The best part is spring break and Spring Break Servant Events!! Each year during Michigan State’s spring break, people involved at Martin Luther Chapel have an opportunity to go on Servant Event Trips. These trips are a great chance to form friendships and be a blessing to others by serving in various ways.

This March, students traveled to Phoenix (they worked with Habitat for Humanity), El Paso (Ysleta Lutheran Mission), and Galveston (One Mission: Galveston). A small group also traveled to Haiti for earthquake relief. Thank you for your prayers and donations! To get a taste of what our groups did, see the links below!

Phoenix, AZ
Students who traveled to Phoenix worked with Habitat for Humanity and Valley Lutheran High School to do landscaping, painting, and other various projects.

El Paso, TX
The group that traveled to El Paso crossed the border into Juarez, Mexico each day to build a house for a family connected with Ysleta Lutheran Mission.

Galveston, TX
The students that spent spring break in Galveston worked with a homeless shelter called Streetscape, and assisted in trasporting meals for the shelter. They also spent time doing repairs for the shelter.

Lilavois, Haiti
Three people traveled to Haiti this year to do structural repairs on the orphanage that they had previously helped build. The orphanage had suffered damamge during the earthquake in January.

The teams are thankful for all of the support and prayers they received for their trips. Their experiences were faith-growing and truly a blessing to all involved.
