Martin Luther Chapel is a service-oriented community of Christians. Working together, individuals using their own unique talents, provide members and visitors, very young, very old, and in between, opportunities for serving, loving, and caring for others. Audiovisual This team incorporates the use of lighting, sound, and PowerPoint, as needed, to add to the worship experience. Knowledge of these areas is helpful but free training is also provided for those who would like to learn. Questions? Contact Joel Newport at joelnewport@gmail.com.
Child Care Individuals are paired to provide child care during the Sunday AM Worship service in the lower level child care room. The Worship service is televised in that room while you interact with the children. Contact Megan Schlanser at mbschlanser@hotmail.com to volunteer.
Christmas Play Each year during the months of November and December the children of Martin Luther Chapel rehearse a special Christmas play typically written and directed by a member of the congregation. The play is performed in mid December at the morning and evening Sunday Worship services. There are many opportunities not only for the children but for others to assist with working with the children, creating costumes, providing snacks for the children, and set design. Questions? Coffee and Treats Each Sunday morning treats (cookies, donuts, muffins, etc.) as well as hot beverages and cold drink are provided and served informally following the morning Worship service. Volunteers are scheduled throughout the year and typically are assigned 3-4 Sundays per year. Contact Sharon Lange at sharon4330@gmail.com if you'd like to provide a treat on a Sunday morning.
Communion Preparation Prepare the elements for communion, which are placed on the altar prior to the service, and clean-up in the sacristy afterwards. You can help by contacting Becky Armstrong at kurlytop05@aol.com.
DVD Ministry Each Sunday one member of this team is scheduled to record the morning Worship service. Following the service copies are made, as needed, for those unable to be present or as specifically requested. Training for this very important ministry takes 5-10 minutes. Greeters At the morning and evening Sunday Worship services a team of 2-3 people are assigned at the Park Lane and Abbot Road doors to welcome people as they arrive for Worship and answer questions for first time visitors. Join the team by contacting Jill Beck at jbeck912@hotmail.com.
Helping Hands Ministry Families in the church who have recently had an operation, are receiving cancer treatments, experienced the loss of a loved one, etc. are asked how we can specifically meet their immediate needs to help them. This might include bringing in a meal, providing a ride to a doctor appointment or a trip to pick up medication, etc. Volunteers assist in responding as occasions arise. Questions? Landscape
Many hands are needed to maintain the beautiful Chapel gardens. In the spring and fall you can assist with preparing the gardens. Throughout the summer months volunteers are assigned a specific weekend to continue providing tender, loving care to the gardens, which are enjoyed by the community as well as those attending Martin Luther Chapel. Pathways A group of representatives of the Transportation/Van, Ushers, Welcome Team, Treats, and Student Leaders combine to “make the journey to and from Martin Luther Chapel a positive and natural experience for everyone.” We welcome input and involvement from everyone who supports our mission statement. Planned Giving and Endowment Team This team serves to educate and encourage donors to the ministry to consider charitable giving to the Chapel either through estate planning and/or outright gifts to the Chapel’s Endowment Fund. Sanctuary Care Join with others who care for the Chapel sanctuary. Tasks involved include caring for the silver, brass, and pottery vessels, cleaning, repairing or making new communion linens, refreshing altar candles, and making new banners. Questions? Social Events Planning Team This team coordinates a variety of opportunities for the people of Martin Luther Chapel to socialize by participating in fun, wholesome activities. Spiritual Care & Growth Team This team cares for the spiritual and personal needs of those in our midst. Their involvement includes oversight of the Stephen Ministry program, the prayer community, sending care notes to those experiencing a special event in their lives and addressing special needs through the “Helping Hands” ministry. Stephen Ministry Our Stephen Ministry equips lay persons to provide confidential, distinctively Christian, one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers are members of Martin Luther Chapel who receive special training and care for people who are experiencing grief, loss of a job, need of long-term care, divorce, losses as they age, and life situation changes, a crisis or a difficult time. Teen Ministry College age student leaders mentor the youth (grades 6 - 12) at Martin Luther Chapel in encouraging them spiritually by leading Bible Study, hosting social events, such as, lock ins, movie nights, picnics, and coordinating Servant Events for the teens. Ushers At each Worship service ushers distribute bulletins, insure adequate seating for those with special needs or those arriving after the service has begun, distribute the offering plates during the service, and count those in attendance for the tally sheet provided. Mini Bus Drivers Mini Bus runs are an essential part of the ministry at Martin Luther Chapel because they make it easier for MSU students to participate in a variety of activities here. Become a regular mini bus driver or a substitute driver by speaking to Pastor Dave (dresseld@msu.edu) or Debbie Broemer, Chapel Manager (mindsitrinity@gmail.com) about easily obtaining a required Chauffeur’s license.
Welcoming Team reaches out to those who have visited Martin Luther Chapel. The Team initiates contact with individuals who have recently come to worship with us and sends them a packet of information with the many activities, clubs, Bible studies, and opportunities for fellowship that Martin Luther Chapel has to offer people in all walks and stages of life.
