Projector screen paint

During last Sunday's meeting, we had a quick discussion about the possibility of using reflective paint on the sanctuary ceiling to improve video projections, but we wanted more information on the paint. Joel tracked down the following info for us:

One product is "Screen Goo" -- see the website at http://www.goosystems.com/

Another is "Digital Image Screen Paint", see http://www.screenpaintsupply.com

I looked at both websites and found:

  • The paint is expensive. The base coat is $70/gallon (two coats required) and the reflective top coat $200/gallon (two coats required).
  • The paint needs to be matched to projection system.
  • The paint needs to be matched to the room lighting.

As I understand it, the reflective paint could be added at any time. And, any discussion on whether to use the paint probably should be included with any discussion on a video projection system. I suggest we defer action on trying to select a reflective paint at this time. Please let me know if you think we should proceed with trying to select a reflective paint now.

Paint

I agree - It sounds like we should wait. I would think that we could get away with painting select areas where the images will be projected, in the future, without too much of a noticeable difference on the ceiling, but that discussion can be had later.
