Julie Stevens is the current Choir Director/Organist for Martin Luther Chapel. The daughter of a church musician and an accountant, Julie was born and raised in Havre, Montana where she spent most of her free time singing, playing the piano and euphonium, participating in theater, and helping her friends as a wrangler at their cattle ranch.
After attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and obtaining her bachelor's degree in Church Music, Julie spent a year working for a pipe organ builder, then moved out to Massachusetts to start her career as a church musician. She spent 4 years with the Evangelical Covenant Church in Attleboro, MA where she directed the Chancel Choir, Celebration Ringers, Children's Choir (which sang anthems and rang handbells), and Worship Team, as well as accompanied the music for two morning worship services on the piano and organ. She also taught private lessons in piano, voice, organ, and brass to students who varied in age from 6 all the way to 72. While in New England, Julie was introduced to a special vocal method called Mcclosky Technique which she quickly fell in love with and is currently in the process of becoming a Certified McClosky Voice Technician herself. After that is completed, she plans to pursue her advanced degrees in music at Michigan State University.
In her spare time, Julie enjoys taking classes at the gym, particularly Yoga and Zumba, practicing her menagerie of musical instruments, teasing her cat with a laser pointer, and hiking with her two shepherd-mix dogs, Peanut and Skippy, with whom she also competes in Agility and Obedience.
