Upcoming Training for New Stephen Ministers

On October 13, 2009 a new group of people who want to be Stephen Ministers will begin training:

Training is from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM on Tuesdays for 20 - 22 weeks with breaks for holidays. You will learn about the important skills to be a "distinctively Christian caregiver" like listening, compassion, empathy, patience, boundries, confidentiality, etc. When the training is complete you will have the confidence to come alongside someone (of the same gender) who is experiencing a difficulty or a change in their life. As soon as you sign up you can begin reading some of the resource materials and books that go along with the course.
“WHAT IS STEPHEN MINISTRY?” Stephen Ministry is a system through which members of Martin Luther Chapel are trained and organized to help provide Christian care giving to members of our congregation and community. This multiplies the amount of caring ministry Martin Luther Chapel can provide by giving us a whole team of skilled caregivers who are equipped to bring Christ’s healing love to people who are grieving, in crisis, or experiencing other stresses in life. If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister applications are on the counter in the entryway; they can be turned in to Pastor Dave Dressel. If you would like to learn more about how someone can receive support through this program, contact Krista Haven (517-381-8227), Brad Garmon (517-214-1075), Betsy Seeley (517-347-0057), Pastor Dave or Dian Silvey, Ministry Assistant (both at 517-332-0778).
